The film begins with a young Veronica meeting with a man named William after her parents have died. He questions her about how she feels about it and she explains that people die all the time. He then offers to take her in and train her for a job. He explains that his wife and child were killed by a bad man and she decides to take him up on his offer.

Fast-forward 12 years to what appears to be 1950’s America, a now blonde Veronica prepares to finally finish the job. She and William go into the woods so that she can get used to running through the woods with no shoes. They briefly discuss why she can’t use a gun for the job (because when they run out of bullets, they are just paperweights). Next, William teaches her how to put someone in a chokehold. For the last piece of her training, she is given a combination of truth serum and a hallucinating drug to confront her greatest fear. This is so she can understand what her victims will be experiencing. Veronica’s fear is that she will fail her mission and William will kill her.

Meanwhile, we are introduced to the boys: Jameson, Daniel, Nelson, and Shane. Jameson, their leader, chooses the women (always blondes because that’s his “type”). This time he invites a waitress named Gwen on a date. Gwen wears a long white dress on the date, where the boys then hunt and shoot her.

On a recon mission, Veronica then seeks out and meets Jennifer (Shane’s girlfriend) for information about the boys. They bond over their boy issues, revealing Veronica’s feelings for William and her realization that he is emotionally unavailable. Jennifer tells her the boys are on the verge of falling apart. Next, using herself as bait, Veronica meets Jameson who invites her on a date. He tells her to wear red lipstick and not to be late.

On Saturday, Veronica picks out a red dress and writes ‘I Love U’ in lipstick on her mirror before leaving. The boys pick her up at the diner and take her to the woods where they pick dares from a bag. She uses this to trick every boy but Jameson into drinking the hallucinogen, but also gets tied up as a result. She draws ‘Die’ and asks to go home, but they refuse to take her. Jameson then assures her that they won’t rape her because “women who are sexually assaulted don’t run very well.” He gives her five minutes to run, which she takes before getting rid of her heels so she can fight. The boys decide not to wait for the five minutes and go after her immediately.

The first boy, Daniel, hallucinates two panda heads in suits coming after him, one who is Veronica who kills him with his own axe. Next, Veronica goes after Nelson. He sees a group of gray figures circling around him who he tries to fight. His mother appears and they kiss deeply before he dies from Veronica crushing his head with a rock. Jameson begins to discover his friends bodies and is intrigued.

A car drives up and Jennifer gets out. She finds Jameson and asks for Shane. Instead, he comes onto her. It is revealed that before she started dating Shane, she lost her virginity to Jameson. However, she gives into his advances just as Shane appears. Betrayed, he punches Jameson, who taunts him by saying people like them don’t love. Jameson explains what they do in the woods, though Shane tries to deny it. He kills Jameson before he tries to strangle Jennifer. It all turns out to be a hallucination as Jennifer is really Veronica and she strangles him.

Finally, Jameson and Veronica come face to face. Jameson suggests he and Veronica get married and go from town to town killing people but she refuses. He gives her time to catch her breath as they ask each other questions. He asks if she enjoyed killing his friends and she answers yes. She asks how many girls they have killed and he says “21 including you.” (William revealed to Veronica earlier that it was actually 11.) They then fight until he passes out in a chokehold. She forces him to drink the drugged alcohol. When he awakes, he has a noose around his neck and is standing on a tree stump. Crying, he begs for his life and swears never to kill again, but Veronica doesn’t believe him. As the drugged alcohol begins to kick in, all 11 of his victims, with Gwen leading the way, come out of the trees and move toward him. In his haste to get away, Jameson steps off the tree stump and dies.

The movie ends with Veronica and William eating pancakes at the diner in victory.
